From the earliest
days of naval warfare the nation with the best armed ships literally
"Ruled the Waves". Superior firepower continued for centuries to
decide the outcome of any battle. From the 'line-of-battle' ships to the
last launched by Great Britain the number and size of guns was a measure
of a nations power. These capital ships were rendered obsolete by the
advent of airborne warfare.
